Today is July 1st, and with that comes the second edition of Camp NaNoWriMo.
Rather than writing the “full-length” novel of 50,000 words, I’ve decided to write a novella during July. Its current title is “Legacies,” as you can see on the title below. A sort of prequel to my current work in progress, Dire Fate, it takes place roughly twenty years before the first book in our little series. Here’s the synopsis I wrote for Camp:
“Thirty years after Argon and the first daiyer wolf pack defeated the Great Dragon and witnessed the arrival of the elemental dragons, the cities in northern forests are finally starting to feel the effects. As the dragons start targeting villages close to home, King Betomel of Sylph and his good friend Cato Vomiril must find a way to protect people from the dragon threat.
“Meanwhile, Cato struggles with the legacies left to him by both his father and grandfather. But it isn’t easy when one legacy is far from honorable.”
So it’s not the best synopsis around; I never claimed to be good at writing them. The photo from the title isn’t mine, by the way, but unfortunately I can’t remember where I got the picture from.
My goal is 17,500 words, because that’s the average word count of a short novella.
Meanwhile I intend to keep chipping away at the next draft of Dire Fate.
What about the rest of you? Are you pledging to a word count for Camp NaNoWriMo? If so, what’s the project and what’s your word count goal?
