Poem #7: Away the Armor

Away the Armor

I wish I could apologize for being so morbid.

I grew up on fairy tales,

And read stories of brave people

Who would sacrifice anything.

Even their lives.

I grew up reading of white knights

Who fought for honor and glory.

Who fought for their homes: the heroes.

I dreamed of being them one day,

Only now there’s nothing to fight for.

No dragon that needs killing

No war that needs fighting,

And I really don’t know

What to do with an ordinary life.

There were never any stories

About these, the ordinary things.
